Obituary for Annie Lois Gordon

In the early hours of August 1, 2019, Annie Lois Gordon was reunited with her adoring husband Victor of 64 years. Vic and Lois had been soul mates since meeting at a Salvation Army church camp when they were youths. We know heaven had a joyous celebration upon her arrival.
Lois was born on December 30, 1934 in Miami, Florida. She was the only daughter of Ada and Randall Berry and sister to William, David and Kenny. She graduated from Jefferson High School and married Victor Gordon in 1953. Victor’s Army career took them all over the world, travel which Lois embraced. She would always say that she could not wait to see what was around the next corner.
Lois was a fun loving soul. The 4 ‘F”s of her life: Faith, Family, Friends and Fun. She loved her church and her church family. As a military wife, the definition of family was broadened to include the families those who served as well as her immediate family. She valued the support and inclusiveness of being a military wife. Lois and Vic traveled the world with their family in tow and the friendships fostered along the way were cherished. Friends described her as quick witted, with an engaging smile, twinkling eyes and an infectious laugh. She loved to travel and explore, relishing the journey to the destination. The many friends made during those years carried well into retirement. Vic and Lois eventually settled in Fair Play, SC and were active members of South Union Baptist Church in Westminster. She loved her flowers, to cook, sew and needle point, bowl with the Ye Old Salts Bowling League and travel with family and friends. Even with her eventual diagnosis of vascular dementia and moving into assisted living, Lois continued to endear herself to those around her.
Lois is survived by her children, Lois (Ken) Bell, Margaret Patterson and Victor (Angie) Gordon; her grandchildren Christopher Bell, Margaret (Chad) Merck, Zack Patterson, Megan (Eric) Davis and Benjamin Gordon; great-grandchildren Kristen, Kendall and Emma Kate Bell, David Diamond, Jr, Jaiden and Carson Merck. She is predeceased by her husband Victor, her daughter Katherine (Brent) Diamond; her parents Ada Powell and Randall Berry, brothers David, William (Carolyn) and Kenneth (Honnie) Berry and her grandchild David (Stephanie) Diamond.
Special thanks go to the staff of Greenville Glenn Assisted Living and to Heartland Hospice for the love and care they showered upon our mother. You helped to make her days there special and in her last days, shared in our laughter and tears. We know you grew to love her as much she loved you. And for that, we are ever so grateful.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held on August 6, 2019 at 11:30 AM at Palmetto Mortuary, Greenville, SC. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Greenville Alzheimer’s Association, South Union Baptist Church or the ministry of your choice.
